Discovery Concerts

The Shreveport Symphony is teaming up with Carnegie Hall Weill Music Institute’s highly acclaimed Link Up program for its four Discovery Concerts on January 25 – 26, 2018.

Maestro Michael Butterman will lead students in an exploration of how composers create musical movement using motifs, melodies, steps, leaps, dynamics, and orchestration. Students in grades 3-5 can sing or play along with the SSO on recorders or string instruments.

All concerts will take place at RiverView Theater (600 Clyde Fant Parkway). This project is supported by a grant from the Community Foundation and funding from Caddo Parish Schools. Therefore, the Discovery concerts are free of charge to all public school students, and $5 per person for private and homeschool groups. Schools that choose to participate in Link Up will also receive free curriculum materials, including teacher guides, CDs, and student workbooks, to help prepare for the culminating performance.
